Louisiana Medicaid Meeting Cancelled
November 16, 2008
The email below just arrived from DHH. I hope that anyone who planned to attend gets this notice!
Julianne,
I apologize for the late notice, but the Medicaid reform meeting has been canceled for tomorrow afternoon. They believe they will reschedule the meeting soon after the Thanksgiving holidays. To check to see when the meeting is rescheduled, please check the Louisiana Health First website at http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/?ID=349 and the calendar at http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/events.asp?view=cal&id=349
Thanks,
Michelle

Medicaid Change in the Air
November 16, 2008
The Jindal administration is proposing far reaching changes to the way in which Medicaid operates in the state of Louisiana. For our clients, the change is long in coming. However, what the changes will entail is not yet clear or determined.
Louisiana DHH has issued a fact sheet and a white paper on the proposed changes. A link to the papers is included to your left. I encourage all readers to study these documents and send any comments or suggestions to DHH. I cannot think of anyone better equipped to guide our state government on Medicaid Health Services than Medicaid providers.
Also, Michelle Breaux Perry, Legislative Liason at Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals advises that an open meeting will be held to discuss these proposed changes. Please, please attend. It is our chance to be heard before decisions are made. Too many times we are taken by surprise when new mandates affecting our industry show up unannounced. Details of the meeting are as follows:
Event: LHF Medicaid Reform Advisory Group Meeting
Topic: Louisiana Health First Medicaid Reform Concept
Date: Tuesday November 18, 2008
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Poydras Building – 1st Floor Hearing Room
1702 North 3rd Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802
If I am fortunate enough to have no surveys or other pressing matters, I plan on attending. My calandar is marked. What about yours?

Online license renewal at Louisiana State Board of Nursing is now available. If you haven’t already done so, renew your license now.
2008 was the first year that all licenses had to be renewed via the internet. It was also the first year that Haydel Consulting Services received phone calls from desperate clients with unlicensed nurses!
Do yourself, your patients and your employer a favor by renewing now! Afterall, you are obviously at the computer reading this. Click on the link in the sidebar to your left and knock one more thing off your task list before the holiday season starts and it gets too easy to forget.
A Stunning Team!

Angela Harrington from MD Homecare Network discusses Nursing Performance with Jeff.
Yesterday, Haydel Consulting Services LLC had the honor of hosting Jeff Lewis of Lewis Computer Services at our office. His insight and enthusiasm about managing care and business within the constraints of the Prospective Payment System were contagious. After Jeff lit a fire under our mutual clients with statistical data, I had the chance to speak to the nursing audience and explain how these numbers can be adjusted using sound nursing practice.
I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to hear Jeff speak about PPS to take full advantage. Highlights of yesterdays presentation included a detailed description of the direct link between diagnoses and payment, how therapy is either paying off or costing an agency and how to use Episode Master to fully appreciate clinical and financial outcomes.
Welcome to our Blog
November 13, 2008
This is our first post and obviously it will take some time to get the hang of this blog thing. As we were working on getting our website up, it became apparent how difficult it was to continually update the web pages with new information as it became available. In health care which is quite possibly the most regulated industry in the world, we see a need to get information out to clients quickly. We hope we have found a solution.
We also hope to provide our clients with a friendlier place to exchange ideas, thoughts and sometimes, just a little fun. Stick around and join us. We all might learn something.
